“Love and marriage, love and marriage, they go together like a horse and carriage. This I tell you brother you can’t have one without the other!”
This week I’ve been humming the Frank Sinatra tune above and while the sentiments may seem a little outdated for some, I was reflecting on how some things are just meant to go together. In particular my thought was that Caribbean properties and solar technology were made for each other. I do hope that in the future we will ensure that you can’t have one without the other!
The abundance of sun received by the region is the reason it is one of the most visited destinations in the world. As well as soaking the sun into our bodies we can now invest in more technology that enables us to harness free sunlight energy and use it to power our homes.
Solar hot water is relatively common in the region and saves a fortune on using mains electricity to heat tanks of water. Some systems are so easy to make that DIY enthusiasts can make and install one in a day!
Nowadays solar panel technology is also
becoming cheaper and
more efficient and thus is a more viable and cost effective option for everyday people to get off the grid and generate their own electricity. I even saw recently that someone had invented a prototype for
curtains that capture sunlight and convert it into usable energy! Imagine, one day in the near future there will be a world with no utility bills!
In addition, many appliances now come with solar options. I just bought
a wind up radio that also contains a small solar panel that can be used to operate the radio or charge up a cell phone! Friends of mine just imported a solar freezer and so it seems that solar technology is shining brighter than ever. Solar power and Caribbean properties: certainly a match made in heaven.
