This real estate is located close to Sage Mountain National Park which encompasses the highest point of a ridge running east/west along the spine of Tortola. The elevation of the Park ranges from 750 feet at the western end to 1716 feet at Mount Sage, which is the highest point in the Virgin Islands, US and British.




Most of the Park is above 1000 feet, and at this elevation precipitation and cloud cover increase sufficiently to support some forest species (e.g., bullet wood, Manilkara bidentata) normally associated with rain forest in Puerto Rico.

 

Several rare and endangered plant species grow within Sage Mountain National Park. A small area of about 29 and half acres retains much of the character of the original forests that were found at this elevation and in ghuts (small natural run-offs) in Tortola.

BVI Property

This is because the rough boulder terrain here discouraged clearance of vegetation for agriculture apart from some selective logging.

Since acquisition by the Trust in 1964, tree planting has been carried out on previously cultivated areas, using West Indies Mahogany and White Cedar, and some natural regeneration has occurred.

The access to the site is via a ¾ mile long track through a mixture of undisturbed natural land and locally cultivated farm land where local farmers can often be seen tending their land and still using a donkey as their main means of transport.

Crops such as fruit and vegetables, root crops, bananas, cabbage, purple cabbage, thyme, ginger, celery, parsley, okra, peanuts, peas, beet, lettuce, sugar cane art typical of the crops grown on the Island and to be found on the drive to the site.


There are spectacular views across Drakes Channel overlooking other Islands from Virgin Gorda to St John including islands such as Cooper, Salt, Peter and Norman.


The land is covered with low scrub vegetation and a few small trees. The height, isolation and vistas give the area a wonderful sense of calm and tranquility.

The site is remote from all habitation adding to its seclusion however it only takes about 25 minutes to drive to Road Town the capital of the BVI. It is about 20 minutes from the best beaches to the north including Cane Garden Bay and more tranquil Brewers Bay.





Potential Uses

The potential for a spa, or retreat centre on this site is excellent.
